After working intensely in a hospital during COVID, I gradually began to feel unwell. Every day was a struggle to get out of bed and perform at the level I wanted to. Naturally, as a doctor, I sought the opinions of the most renowned clinicians in my region. Time and time again, I was told that my results were either normal, not too bad, or that I could try strong medications with a long list of potential side effects. Naturally, I was reluctant.
When I asked questions like “Why me?”, “What caused this?”, and “What can I change in my lifestyle to help me get better?”, I didn’t receive answers that satisfied my scientific curiosity. Deep down, I knew there had to be other forms of healthcare focused on optimising health rather than simply prescribing a pill for every illness.
I continued to struggle through my daily activities—working and trying to be present for my young family. After relentless searching, I stumbled upon Functional, Naturopathic, and Integrative Medicine, which finally provided the answers I had been seeking.
Putting everything into practice has not been a quick fix, but looking back on how far I’ve come, I am deeply grateful. I can now perform in the way I aspire to and continue to serve those who matter most to me—my beloved clients, patients, and family.
I no longer see life the way I did when I left medical school almost 15 years ago. Health is not found in our sick-care model; it lies in our habits, nutrition, self-care, awareness, relationships, and in addressing the imbalances our bodies continuously communicate to us.
